Idaho has a long legacy of electing leaders based on integrity and effectiveness—not party labels.

In the spirit of that Idaho tradition, I’m running to represent District 26: Blaine, Lincoln, and Jerome Counties to deliver honest government and common-sense solutions, not ideological theater. My campaign is an extension of thirty years of public service in Idaho.

After more than two decades as a university professor in Idaho, my wife Erika and I now operate Daisy’s Farm south of Bellevue, growing produce and hay for local markets. For more than 25 years I have focused on the history of Idaho, teaching American history at Idaho State University since 1997. I also taught at Boise State University and the University of Idaho. As a scholar I researched water in Idaho, and as a farmer I now irrigate with that priceless resource. When the Smithsonian exhibit WaterWays toured Idaho in 2016, I was appointed state scholar, giving the keynote address on water in Idaho when the display came to Ketchum, Burley, Pocatello, and Idaho Falls.

Erika and I have lived in various parts of Idaho, and we raised our son Dan here. I spend much of my time  exploring Idaho’s landscapes and communities. My campaign is an extension of 30 years of public service throughout the state. I’ve frequently volunteered with groups like the Community Library, Blaine County Trails Coalition, Idaho Humanities Council, Idaho State Historical Society, Trailing of the Sheep, Boulder Mountain Tour, Standhope Ultra Challenge, Pocatello Rotary Club, Pocatello Branch of the NAACP, and the Mink Creek Nordic Center. I was twice recognized with Idaho State University’s Outstanding Public Service Award. I was editor of the state history journal, and as a historian of Idaho, I’ve given public presentations across the state in towns such as Wallace, Lewiston, Challis, Caldwell, Hailey, Boise, and Twin Falls. I’ve come to know Idaho well through research, hands-on experience, and conversations with locals.

I believe Blaine, Jerome, and Lincoln Counties deserve practical, grounded leadership focused on solving real problems—strengthening public schools, protecting Idaho’s land and water, and ensuring rural and small-town communities have the resources to thrive on their own terms. Progress comes from collaboration and good faith, not ideology or division.

Idaho works best when leaders are rooted in their communities, responsive to the people they serve, and willing to do the hard work of governing with care and respect. That is the approach I will bring to the Idaho House, making Idaho stronger together.
